Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)
Computerized Tomography or CT Scan is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat a host of medical conditions. CT Scanning involves specialized x-tray equipment with powerful computers to produce multiple images or pictures of the inside of the body. CT Scans provide greater clarity than regular x-rays.
It produces 3-D images of cross sectional parts of the body. CT scans are commonly used to diagnose strokes, hemorrhage, tumors, and certain internal injuries. CT can distinguish differences in bone, tissue, blood, fat, gas, fluid, etc. These scans determine if a growth is cystic or solid and if an organ’s shape and size are abnormal. During a CT scan you lie still on a table. As the table slowly passes through the center of a large x-ray machine, the scanning takes place. It is a painless procedure. IV and oral contrast are often utilized to aid in CT scans to make parts of your body show up better in the image.
Think of the scan results as a loaf of sliced bread. Your physician can look at each of the slices individually, or perform additional visualization to make 3-D images.
CT scans River Park Hospital can perform include Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, and Extremities. The Hi Speed CT technology allows for 3D image reconstruction which reduces radiation exposure, exam time and provides improved imaging capabilities.
The 64-Slice GE LightSpeed VCT XT configured system complements and extends the range of quality diagnostic services that RiverPark offers to the residents of our community.
Our CT Scanner offers the advantages of three-dimensional capabilities and a significant increase in the speed of turnaround time — a test which previously took 30 minutes now takes approximately two or three minutes. In addition, up to a third less injectable contrast material is needed for a procedure. The Hi Speed CT technology allows for 3D image reconstruction which reduces radiation exposure, exam time and provides improved imaging capabilities.
The CT incorporates one the most advanced diagnostic tools for helping physicians reach confident diagnoses to provide the best patient care. This technology provides advanced neurological imaging, cardiac imaging and orthopedic reconstructive capabilities. In addition to improved quality of the images produced, we are also able to provide improved patient safety and comfort with lower doses of radiation and shorter procedures.
